Everyone is concerned with their weight and we all want to do whatever possible to keep us healthy and fit. One way of finding out if your current weight is healthy for your height is to use a body mass index. By doing a few calculations you can easily find your personal BMI and check it using a BMI chart. Serious health problems can arise and strain on your heart is caused by being overweight. Other problems include: high blood pressure, heart disease, varicose veins, sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes. If we all remained within our healthy weight, over 300,000 lives in the United States alone, could be saved. Take the time to do these calculations and find out what you should weigh, based on your height. Take you current weight and multiply it by 703, then divide that number by your height in inches. Once again, divide that number by your height in inches. That will give you your body mass index. 18.5 or below will put you in the “underweight” category. Up to 24.9 gives you a “healthy” reading and anything over that is considered overweight to obese. There are exceptions to this number. Children should be evaluated by a doctor the body builders who have more muscle, which weights more, will automatically have a high BMI number.
