When people have higher body metabolisms and spend more of their energy than accumulating it, the body normally shrinks. This is because, in the lack of energy, the body will turn to its fat reserves and burn those off in order to gain more energy.
Thin guys and gals either have worked their bodies exhaustively or they may have too little to eat. For skinny ones wanting to achieve shapely muscles or add more bulk to their bodies, weight lifting might prove to be the best choice.
In lifting weights, the person spends most of his time trying to stimulate the muscles to grow more fiber and more muscle cells. This is why you feel your muscles “burn” every time you perform routines on that squat machine, and that lingering burn you experience after three sessions of really intense barbell curls. Your body is repairing the damaged muscle tissues caused by the forceful contractions and extensions you’ve exerted in your workout.
That is why, in gaining weight, exercises with low repetitions but high resistance is the best for bulking up the muscles. High resistance — or really heavy weights — will stimulate your muscles to grow more muscle tissue. More muscles and less fat means more good health and sound bodies.
As you start your gym routines, it is generally advisable to begin with less than 10 repetitions of a particular routine, but doing it with really heavy weights. The weight should be enough for you — “enough” meaning, you can comfortably carry the barbell or dumbbell to that last 8th or 10th count.
