If you are overweight then no doubt you will have heard it all when it comes to losing that stubborn fat. One term you may have come across a few times is the term ‘Brown Fat’, otherwise known as Brown Adipose Tissue.
Just lately there has been some research into Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) and the role it plays in the body, it certainly makes for interesting reading.
BAT is a type of fat that is largely found in newborn babies and also mammals during hibernation. It has an excellent supply of blood and is also dense with mitochondria (The part of the cell that produces power). What has made scientists take special interest however, is the role that BAT plays in temperature regulation.
Usually, when trying to lose fat, a lot of people may depend on a weight loss product. With BAT it seems that nature may lend a hand. A study in humans showed that BAT was concentrated higher in the cold months of winter and was reduced significantly during the summer.
It seems that to gain an advantage in burning BAT, the body should be kept cool, therefore keeping the BAT ‘active’ and the blood flowing through the fat itself.
